Wild still not thinking about play-offs despite winning run

Oldham boss Pete Wild insists he is not thinking out the League Two play-offs despite leading his side to a third straight win with a 2-0 triumph at Colchester.
The Latics are now five points off the top seven after winning at the U’s, who are now two points adrift of the play-off spots.
Oldham took a fifth-minute lead through Alex Iacovitti’s close-range finish and Callum Lang made it 2-0 in the 13th minute after Colchester goalkeeper Dillon Barnes had inexplicably cleared the ball straight to the visiting striker.
Colchester pushed hard in the second half but Oldham defended superbly, much to Wild’s delight.
Wild, who retook the Oldham reins last month following Paul Scholes’ departure, said: “We’ll just take it one game at a time and see where it takes us.
“We have given ourselves a chance now but we’re not going to get carried away.
“A week ago we were 16th and we’re now 11th but we’re not getting carried away and the play-offs are not in my mind.
“Swindon is in my mind because if you start thinking ‘we’ll win here or we’ll win there’ you end up getting egg on your face.
“We’ll just keeping working hard and what we’ve said to the boys is that we’ve just got to take each game as it comes and if we do well and work hard, we’ve always got a chance.”
Wild’s side have now won three successive games 2-0, having also seen off Grimsby and Tranmere by the same scoreline.
He added of their latest triumph: “We’ve had two massive games in a week and the boys are tired so to hurt them early and then put in some resolute defending and defend our own box is what good teams do.”
Colchester boss John McGreal bemoaned his side’s poor decision-making in the opening minutes, which left them with a mountain to climb.
They were unable to do it and have now lost five of their last seven games – including three successive home defeats.
McGreal said: “We looked nervous and we made some poor decisions that have cost us.
“We all make mistakes but at the minute, the key decisions that we’re making are really costly for us.
“They’re costing us goals and that’s been the problem.
“We’ve had a run at home which I haven’t had since I’ve been here, as such.
“We gave it a go in the second half and the talk at half-time was to go for it.”
He added: “We changed one or two things and we wanted them to take the ball and to play into certain areas.
“But it shouldn’t be taking 45 minutes and another team talk for that to happen. It’s about us taking more responsibility on the pitch.
“Oldham put their bodies on the line and got some good blocks in but we made the wrong choices in the key areas.”
