Daniel Stendel frustrated by Coventry draw

Head coach Daniel Stendel was left frustrated after his Barnsley side were held to a 2-2 draw by play-off chasing Coventry.

After going ahead twice through Alex Mowatt and Cauley Woodrow, the Tykes were pegged back through goals from Jordy Hiwula and Luke Thomas.

Stendel said: “I think in the second half it was a close game.

“In the first half we played very well, we made loads of chances and Coventry only had one chance and scored.

“After six games not conceding, I think that was for me the main point today. We conceded no goals in the last week and we think when we score we win.

“We didn’t defend so well today, Coventry had two chances to score and they scored.

“We had a lot of situations where we were shooting from outside the 18-yard box, but we scored only two goals.

“It’s a draw, okay, but we wanted to win this game so we are disappointed.

“It’s a big time in the season and you can see the players want to win this game 200 per cent. Last week we had a bit more luck, we had chances to win but we take this point.”

Coventry boss Mark Robins said: “I’m proud of them because without a doubt they are the best team we’ve played.

“Both games they’ve been outstanding and they will go up, no doubt about it.

“We’ve taken four points off them but the games have been really tight and we could have won today.

“We could have lost the game, there were some good saves from (Lee) Burge, some interventions and the way they commit people forward they had a lot of attempts on goal, so I think we defended really well other than the goals.

“I think we could have possibly passed out a little bit better and a little more often and have the confidence to do that.

“We were calm, we grew into the game and as soon as we got on the front foot and as soon as the mentality set in that we were on the front foot, we went and scored.”
