McDaid helps Ayr end losing streak with narrow victory

Declan McDaid’s first-half strike proved enough as Ayr ended a three-match losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Dunfermline at East End Park to climb up to third.
Ayr dominated the early possession as they returned to Scottish Championship action for the first time in three weeks, while the home side came into the match on the back of Tuesday’s narrow home defeat to Dundee United.
Midfielder McDaid gave the visitors the lead just after the half-hour mark with a great effort from the left which found the bottom-right corner.
James Vincent headed a Ryan Williamson cross wide midway through the second half as Dunfermline attempted to pull level.
Championship top scorer Lawrence Shankland – with 21 goal so far this season – fired his free-kick over at the other end as the away side looked to double their tally, but in the end McDaid’s effort proved enough to earn maximum points.
