Reece Brown’s second-half brace earned play-off hopefuls Forest Green a 2-0 win at Port Vale.
Rovers goalkeeper Lewis Ward was twice called into action early on, producing a double save to deny Vale pair Cristian Montano and Ricky Miller.
Forward Christian Doidge later flashed his effort just wide of the post from close-range for the visitors following Brown’s cross from the right.
On the hour, Miller weaved his way into the penalty area from the left for the Valiants but saw his fierce drive at an angle well saved by Ward.
Mark Cooper’s side took the lead after 69 minutes when midfielder Brown slammed in a low right-footed
shot which found stopper Scott Brown’s bottom left corner following a scramble in the box.
Brown notched his second deep in stoppage time to seal the victory, breaking on the counter attack following a Vale free-kick to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper and into the net.
Forest Green are sixth, while Vale drop down to 21st in the fourth-tier.
