Calum Butcher’s early goal was enough to give second-placed Dundee United a 1-0 win over Ladbrokes Championship leaders Ross County at Tannadice.
Midfielder Butcher headed home at the front post from a corner in the seventh minute as the hosts cut the gap to the leaders to eight points.
County, who had won their last six league games, went close to an equaliser just before half-time when Jamie Lindsay’s low shot from the edge of the area flew just wide.
Soon after the restart, County forward Ross Stewart forced a reaction save from goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist.
With 20 minutes left, the league leaders were denied again when Jamie Lindsay’s effort was saved by Siegrist.
At the other end, Nicky Clark had a chance on the break, but County keeper Scott Fox made the save.
Declan McManus fired a late chance for the visitors over as United held on for victory.
