Lyle Taylor in impressive form as Charlton edge Burton

Lyle Taylor scored one goal and provided another as Charlton Athletic defeated Burton Albion 2-1 at The Valley to stretch their unbeaten home league run to 13 games.

The former AFC Wimbledon frontman opened the scoring with a penalty for his 14th goal in League One this season, before the Brewers equalised from the spot through Lucas Akins.

Charlton then re-established their advantage after 33 minutes as Ben Reeves powered a header past Bradley Collins and the south-east Londoners then held out for all three points despite two second-half chances for Liam Boyce.

Lee Bowyer’s men started the game on the front foot and after Tariqe Fosu had rattled the bar inside three minutes.

It was not long before Taylor broke the deadlock from 12 yards after being dragged down by John Brayford.

Burton then restored parity when David Templeton’s shot hit the arm of Patrick Bauer, with Akins converting confidently to equal Billy Kee’s club record of 39 EFL goals.

The game was then settled when Taylor’s pinpoint right-wing cross was met by a bullet header from Reeves to put the fifth-placed Addicks 11 points clear of seventh-placed Peterborough United.
