Man Utd squad gorging on vegan food thanks to Smalling and model wife Sam

CHRIS SMALLING has convinced his Manchester United team-mates to go vegan.

Smalling has been outstanding since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in December has completely changed his diet ditching meat, fish, eggs and all dairy products.

The change is due to his model wife Sam who has passed on some of her vegan recipes to the Carrington catering team so her husband can eat his favourite dishes after training.

And instead of mocking the 29-year-old, the rest of the United squad are getting in on the act with club nutrition boss Mark Ellison and chef Mike Donnelly now being asked to include more vegan food on the post-training menu.

The Star report Smalling went vegan last year and Sam's plant-based burgers and curries are going down a storm at the Carrington canteen.

Chris said: "My wife's now been vegan for about four years now.

"I was trying some of her food for dinners and I started to notice the odd benefit.

"She's a good cook anyway which helps, and I went from there if anything, I'm eating better than I was before - not just in terms of vegetable but different proteins.

"Even if you wanted a burger, there are so many different types, I like the Thai food, Jamaican stews with yam and pumpkin and sweet potato.

He added: "Being in football you're quite used to eating together off the buffet, so I spoke to mark and Mike the chef.

"I was just coming up with different dishes as Mike hadn't cooked much vegan food.

"He got influenced by my wife, her recipes, and it became easy actually."

United head to the Emirates to face Arsenal on a high after the historic Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain.

A win will take put them on level points with Tottenham who lost at Southampton yesterday.
