Jordan McGhee netted a brace as Ladbrokes Championship strugglers Falkirk secured an important three points on Friday night after beating high-flying Ayr 2-0.
Defender McGhee opened the scoring in the 27th minute when his ball in from the right wing flew over visiting goalkeeper Ross Doohan and into the net.
The 22-year-old then doubled the hosts’ advantage five minutes before the break when he smashed in his second from just inside the box.
Ayr almost found a route back into the game in the 60th minute but Andy Murdoch’s low drive from close range was brilliantly kept out by the legs of Falkirk goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne.
The visitors had the ball in the back of the net after 77 minutes when in-form Lawrence Shankland turned in from close range but the offside flag was up.
