Barnsley march on despite Brown dismissal

Ten-man Barnsley boosted their promotion hopes with a 3-0 win at Southend United to extend their unbeaten run to 15 League games.
Tykes midfielder Jacob Brown was red-carded 10 minutes before the break for a poor challenge on Shrimpers skipper Sam Mantom.
But Barnsley were still able to triumph at Roots Hall, with Cameron McGeehan, Cauley Woodrow and Jordan Green all scoring in the second half.
The Tykes looked the more dangerous of the teams in the first half, with Woodrow forcing Southend goalkeeper Nathan Bishop into a good save.
But, despite their numerical disadvantage, Barnsley stayed on top after the break and opened the scoring in the 50th minute with McGeehan firing home a well-taken low shot having initially misjudged Daniel Pinillos’ long throw.
The Tykes doubled their lead in the 73rd minute when ex-Southend loanee Woodrow fired home Mike Bahre’s through-ball, before the visitors completed the scoring in stoppage time when Green volleyed home after McGeehan had been denied by Bishop.
The defeat extended the Shrimpers’ winless streak to seven games.
