Bruno Andrade overcame an illness to fire Lincoln back to winning ways

Bruno Andrade overcame an illness to fire League Two leaders Lincoln back to winning ways.

Andrade scored his sixth goal in four games but it was the first of those fixtures that the Imps had won after they had recorded four successive draws.

And boss Danny Cowley revealed his match-winner had been feeling under the weather during the week.

Cowley said: “Bruno will get the plaudits with his two goals and he is in a good place at the moment.

“He has been ill this week but came though that well and scored two great goals again to put us in a good place.

“There were good performances all over the park, though.

“It was a really solid, professional performance and I am proud of the lads for the way they responded from the disappointment of letting a two-goal lead slip against Stevenage last week.

“We were resolute and we showed the qualities that have taken us into this position and were worthy winners at the end of the day.

“We did the basics really well for the first half hour, but when we moved away from doing that we invited the pressure on us for a bit until we got on the front foot again and saw the game out really well.

“We managed the game much better than last week and made it difficult for them and it was great to get back to wining ways.”

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley felt his side were below par and did not deserve anything from the game.

He said: “I’m very disappointed and frustrated because there were no excuses for the way we played.

“They are a top side but we didn’t help ourselves and made it far too easy for them and let them play with us, especially in the first half. It was a real lacklustre performance and we deserve the stick we got because it wasn’t acceptable.

“We gave it a go in the second half but overall that performance does not reflect a team that showed what we are about. It was too easy for them, we didn’t get tight enough and we have to make sure we do better than that when we go to Yeovil next week.

’’We had little spells and we had one or two opportunities but you can’t have five minutes on top here and five minutes there and expect to get something from a team like Lincoln.”
