League Two top scorer James Norwood’s double inspired play-off chasing Tranmere to a 2-1 win away to relegation-threatened Port Vale.
Micky Mellon’s side led on 10 minutes in Staffordshire as Norwood followed up Kieron Morris’ low drive which was parried by goalkeeper Scott Brown to power the ball left-footed in to the top right corner.
Striker Norwood struck the second, his 22nd league goal of the season, with 56 minutes played, running on to Connor Jennings’ pass to fire low into the far corner.
Ben Whitfield pulled one back for John Askey’s hosts on the hour with a low drive from the edge of the penalty area.
Zoumana Bakayogo later came to Rovers’ rescue, clearing a header from Valiants captain Tom Pope off the line.
Whitfield saw a goal ruled out for offside in the closing stages as Tranmere held on to move up to ninth, three points from the play-offs. Struggling Vale remain four points above the relegation zone.
