Paul McCallum did the damage with two early goals as Eastleigh held onto a 2-1 win at home to basement club Braintree despite being reduced to 10 men.
It was the Hampshire side’s fourth win in a row as they moved up to eighth in the table and took the lead in the 14th minute by the striker’s firm header from Mark Yeates’ corner.
When McCallum added his second from another Yeates inswinger three minutes later, it looked all over. There cause was aided when Luke Southwood saved Callum Morton’s penalty for the hosts.
However, Eastleigh ended up having to survive a Braintree revival as Cameron James volleyed in Ricky Gabriel’s pass just before the break.
Eastleigh substitute Cavanagh Miley was sent off for two bookable in quick succession but Eastleigh held on to claim maximum points.
