Dundee United keep the pressure on the top two thanks to Nicky Clark

Dundee United held off a second-half challenge from 10-man Queen of the South to secure a 1-0 win at Palmerston Park.

Barry Maguire was sent off for the home side for committing a foul on Peter Pawlett in the box with Nicky Clark converting the penalty to give United the lead five minutes before the break.

Stephen Dobbie had a chance to level the score for the Doonhamers but his 30-yard free kick hit the woodwork before going behind.

Pawlett had the ball in the back of the net to double the Tangerines’ lead but his goal was ruled offside and Dobbie had a late chance but saw his effort saved by Benjamin Siegrist to give United a second successive win.
