Thistle boost survival hopes with win over Queen of the South

Partick Thistle climbed off the foot of the Scottish Championship standings thanks to a 2-1 win over Queen of the South.
Thistle opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Joe Cardle slid in to bundle the ball into the net from Blair Spittal’s ball.
Cardle left the field after picking up what looked like a hamstring injury shortly before the break as the hosts took their slender lead into half-time.
Thistle doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half when Spittal’s cross from the right was turned in by Miles Storey.
Kris Doolan almost claimed a third on the hour mark with a glancing header, but Queens goalkeeper Alan Martin denied him with a great save.
Queens did pull a late goal back, though, when Andy McCarthy – who had only been on the pitch for three minutes – conceded a penalty, which Stephen Dobbie scored.
