Wrexham end miserable January

Wrexham brought an end to their miserable start to 2019 with a 1-0 victory over Maidenhead.
The Dragons had lost all five fixtures since the turn of the year, failing even to score a goal, and slipped to fifth in the National League standings.
However, they got their promotion bid back on track against relegation-battling Maidenhead thanks to substitute Luke Young’s second-half winner.
Wrexham looked the more likely scorers before the break but could find not find a finish to match their build-up play.
Rekeil Pyke was inches away from giving the hosts a first-minute lead and he also had a goal ruled out for offside just before the break. In between, Pyke also fired over while visiting keeper Carl Pentney did well to deny Stuart Beavon.
Maidenhead’s resistance was finally broken in the 65th minute, though, as Young – who replaced Luke Summerfield late in the first half – tapped home a loose ball.
That was Wrexham’s first goal in over 550 minutes of football, and it proved decisive.
