Crewe’s James Jones faces an extended spell on the sidelines owing to a suspected broken leg.
The midfielder will certainly miss Saturday’s League Two home clash with Colchester, and is facing a possible six-week lay-off.
Jones left Stadium MK on crutches after last weekend’s 1-0 victory at MK Dons.
Defender Nicky Hunt remains doubtful with a knee injury.
Colchester will hand Frankie Kent a late fitness test ahead of Saturday’s Crewe trip.
The defender has missed the last three matches owing to a back problem suffered in the 2-0 New Year’s Day defeat at Crawley.
Colchester hope pain-killing injections earlier this week may ease the issue enough for Kent to make a playing return on Saturday.
Brennan Dickenson and Kane Vincent-Young will again be battling to start at left-back.
