Blackburn Rovers vs Hull City - Mulgrew may return for Blackburn against Hull

Blackburn captain Charlie Mulgrew is in contention to return for this weekend’s Sky Bet Championship clash against fellow play-off chasers Hull.

The defender has missed Rovers’ last three fixtures because of an injury but is not automatically guaranteed to return to the first XI.

Jack Rodwell and Darragh Lenihan have impressed as a centre-back pairing in Mulgrew’s absence, with Blackburn keeping clean sheets in league wins against Millwall and Ipswich this month.

Forward Dominic Samuel and midfield pair Ben Gladwin and Jacob Davenport are all long-term absentees while defender Paul Downing has joined Doncaster on loan for the remainder of the season.

Hull pair Jordy De Wijs and Jarrod Bowen are doubts for the trip to Ewood Park.

Defender De Wijs and winger Bowen suffered knocks in last week’s draw at Aston Villa and manager Nigel Adkins admitted both players face late fitness tests.

Jon Toral has a groin strain which rules out his participation although he is expected to return within one or two weeks, while Marc Pugh could make his debut after joining on loan from Bournemouth for the rest of the season.

Fellow midfielder Jackson Irvine remains on international duty at the Asian Cup with Australia.
