Stevenage leave it late to snatch spoils at Morecambe

A 94th-minute header from Luke Wilkinson earned Stevenage a dramatic 2-1 victory over Morecambe in League Two.
The substitute headed in a Joel Byrom corner deep in eight minutes of injury time to give Dino Maamria’s side the points.
Stevenage took the lead on 25 minutes from the penalty spot. Steven Old brought down Michael Timlin with a rash tackle and Ben Kennedy stepped up to send Mark Halstead the wrong way.
The goal came at a time of Stevenage dominance and they could have taken the lead earlier. Moses Makasi forced a save from Halstead after cutting in from the right and James Ball should have done better than head straight at the keeper after a superb cross from Johnny Hunt.
Morecambe’s only moments of threat came towards the end of the half when Andrew Tutte saw a goalbound shot deflected wide and Paul Farman was forced to save from Rhys Oates and Jordan Cranston.
The second half was a different story as the home side took control. New signing Richie Bennett missed a glorious chance before veteran striker Kevin Ellison levelled the scores with a right-foot shot from 12 yards that sneaked through the legs of Scott Cuthbert and Farman.
The Stevenage keeper then saved well from Ellison and the home side were denied a clear penalty when Zak Mills was bundled over.
To rub salt into the wounds Stevenage took the spoils with their only second-half effort of note when Wilkinson evaded his marker to head past Halstead from close range.
