Collins strike helps Sutton avenge FA Trophy defeat to Bromley

Sutton claimed revenge on Bromley for their FA Trophy first-round defeat by claiming a 1-0 Vanarama National League win over them on Boxing Day.

Jamie Collins bundled in the only goal of the game in the 54th minute as the Yellows extended their unbeaten league run to five games.

Sutton had a good chance in the ninth minute when Nicky Bailey’s deflected cross fell to Collins, who forced a great save from Bromley goalkeeper David Gregory from close range before the ball was cleared off the line.

But the hosts broke the deadlock shortly after the break when Collins headed in from Harry Beautyman’s corner, with the assistant referee signalling that the ball went over the line after it was parried onto the bar and post by Gregory.

Brett Williams saw a late chance go wide from 12 yards out.
