Cambridge leave it late to snatch Colin Calderwood a first victory

Jabo Ibehre’s late goal earned Colin Calderwood his first win as Cambridge head coach as they beat Crawley 2-1.
The U’s had looked set to be frustrated until Ibehre turned the ball home from close range two minutes from time after substitute David Amoo’s teasing wing-play on the right.
The visitors had been gifted the lead after 16 minutes courtesy of a calamitous defensive mix-up. Defenders Brad Halliday and Jake Carroll dallied, with Halliday’s header falling well short to allow Dominic Poleon to run through, round goalkeeper David Forde and pass into an empty net.
Cambridge responded well and were level 11 minutes later through George Maris. Glenn Morris had made a fine save to deny Reggie Lambe moments earlier as Halliday pulled the ball back for Maris to fire emphatically into the far corner.
After the break, Morris clawed away a Harry Darling header following a Maris corner, Ibehre headed Jevani Brown’s cross over the crossbar and Brown fired wide when Amoo’s cross fell to him before they did manage to find a winner.
