Aldershot’s barren run extended after Maidenhead secure thrilling victory

Aldershot’s lengthy winless run was extended to 11 games following a 4-3 defeat at Maidenhead in the Vanarama National League.
The Shots have lost seven and drawn four during that period, including a 7-0 FA Trophy loss at Bedford Town – who are three divisions below Gary Waddock’s side, and are still searching for their first win in all competitions since November 3.
The visitors got off to a great start as Regan Booty threaded a pass through for Reece Grant to slip under the onrushing Maidenhead goalkeeper Carl Pentney after 24 minutes, but Maidenhead hit back.
Adrian Clifton headed the hosts back to parity four minutes later as the two sides were level at the break, with Maidenhead looking the more likely to score.
And the home side took the lead for the first time just six minutes after the restart with Josh Kelly slotting home following a jinking run before Harold Odametey and Alfie Kilgour extended their lead to 4-1 with composed second-half finishes.
Grant grabbed his second to halve the deficit and Adam McDonnell scored a 90th-minute penalty to set up a tense finale, but the hosts held on to move out of the relegation places before the later matches kicked off.
