Braintree extend winless run with Boreham Wood draw
Posted Sunday, December 23, 2018 by PA
Rock-bottom Braintree made it seven games without a win as Boreham Wood returned from Cressing Road with a 1-1 draw.
The hosts’ Lyle Della Verde had unlocked a tight encounter with a superb volley from 30 yards.
Goalkeeper Ryan Huddart was out of position, having just cleared his lines under pressure from Callum Morton, but the winger took advantage in spectacular style.
The Wood came out fighting after the interval. David Stephens headed Kieran Murtagh’s free-kick into the danger zone and Justin Shaibu levelled with a controlled finish past Ben Killip.
Braintree spurned a glorious chance to win it when substitute Billy Crook scuffed a penalty wide following Tom Champion’s foul on Morton.
