Macclesfield and Port Vale share spoils

League Two’s bottom side Macclesfield extended their unbeaten home run to three matches with a 0-0 draw against Port Vale.
The hosts were the better side before the break and Vale dominated thereafter, but neither side was able to provide the key moment to take all three points.
The Silkmen have picked up four points in three league games since Sol Campbell took charge and edged to within three points of safety after keeping a third straight clean sheet at Moss Rose.
Vale were thankful for an impressive first-half double save by goalkeeper Scott Brown, who parried Ben Stephens’ shot and recovered to block the follow-up from Tyrone Marsh.
The visitors had produced even fewer opportunities, save for a rising drive from Antony Kay and Tom Pope’s scuffed shot on the turn.
Local rivalry – and rising tempers – finally surfaced as the game opened up after the break, with the Valiants getting the upper hand.
Leon Legge had a header hacked off the line, Cristian Montano’s effort cleared the crossbar and Scott Quigley’s goal-bound drive was deflected behind by Nathan Cameron, but Macclesfield held on.
