Sunderland boss Jack Ross hopes to have Aiden McGeady and Lynden Gooch available for Saturday’s visit of Bristol Rovers.
McGeady and Gooch missed the midweek FA Cup defeat to Walsall through injury but should return this weekend.
Striker Duncan Watmore will be in the Black Cats’ squad as he continues his recovery from a long-term knee problem.
Defender Adam Matthews (knock) could feature but striker Charlie Wyke (knee) is unlikely to return.
Graham Coughlan will take charge of Rovers at the Stadium of Light following Thursday’s sacking of Darrell Clarke.
Caretaker boss Coughlan could opt to make numerous changes to the team thrashed 4-0 at home by Doncaster last weekend.
Midfielder Ollie Clarke played the opening 60 minutes against Doncaster after returning from injury and should be in contention.
Midfielders Ed Upson and Kyle Bennett and forwards Alex Rodman and Alex Jakubiak are among the players pushing for starts.
