Lowe keeps Pompey flying high with victory over Southend

Leading scorer Jamal Lowe netted his eighth goal of the season to help fire League One leaders Portsmouth to a 2-0 win at home to Southend.
Shrimpers defender Michael Turner also scored an own goal as Kenny Jackett’s men cruised to victory at Fratton Park.
Turner’s moment of humiliation came after just 11 minutes when he turned in Ronan Curtis’ teasing low cross under pressure from Oli Hawkins.
Lowe sealed the points for the home side in the 29th minute heading in off the post from another inviting centre from Curtis.
Clarke should have made it 2-0 five minutes earlier when he rose to meet another great Curtis cross but planted a header over the crossbar.
In the second half man of the match Curtis stung the palms of Southend goalkeeper Mark Oxley with a powerful 25-yard shot while Ben Close missed from six yards.
A Stephen McLaughlin shot was charged down after a dangerous run from Theo Robinson was as close as Southend came to scoring.
