James Henry earned Oxford a valuable point in a 2-2 draw at promotion-chasing Peterborough.
Henry, the U’s leading scorer, equalised twice as Karl Robinson’s men claimed a deserved share of the spoils at the ABAX Stadium.
Oxford fell behind after 10 minutes when Posh forward Ivan Toney neatly swept in Matt Godden’s knock-down and Henry saw an equaliser ruled out by a raised flag after flicking in a Marcus Browne cross.
But he refused to be denied and restored parity with a fine 25-yard drive four minutes before the break.
Peterborough regained the advantage in spectacular style with 15 minutes to go when Siriki Dembele stepped away from three challenges before unleashing a fine strike from 30 yards.
Substitute Jason Cummings then fired wide with a glorious opportunity to seal the points and that miss proved costly when Oxford levelled again from the penalty spot with two minutes to go.
Henry coolly beat Posh goalkeeper Aaron Chapman to claim his 10th goal of the campaign after Gavin Whyte was brought down by Colin Daniel.
