Neil Aspin impressed with Port Vale’s response

Neil Aspin wanted a response from his Port Vale players after the Sky Bet League Two defeat to Swindon at the weekend.
And that was exactly what he got at Yeovil with a 3-0 victory thanks to two Cristian Montano goals either side of a Connell Rawlinson header.
Aspin said: “I think the players let themselves down on Saturday and I said that.
“I had to look at various things because up until tonight we weren’t scoring many goals away from home and we didn’t look a threat. We changed the shape and changed a few things in our general play.
“It’s alright me changing too but it’s up to the players to do it out on the pitch and they did that tonight. I thought they were excellent.
“They started the game really well and we went in front and that seemed to give them confidence.
“I was so encouraged tonight because we scored three but I thought we could have scored six or seven. We had some really good chances. The deliveries from the set pieces were excellent and we looked a good team.”
Some Vale fans might have questioned the decision to start Montano on the right flank, but the winger answered any critics emphatically with strikes in either half.
“There are a lot of people who would not have picked him, but I have got to make the decision and I feel I’ve got to stick by certain players if I believe they can do something,” Aspin added.
“I decided before the game to swap the wingers over and I was really pleased with his contribution.”
As for Yeovil, their miserable run now stretches to just one league win in their last 11 matches and boos rang out around Huish Park throughout the game.
“I understand as the manager of the football club I’m always under pressure and I’ve dealt with that. I’ve taken the bullets and quite clearly we need to be giving the supporters more. I take total responsibility,” Glovers boss Darren Way said.
“I’ve always fought extremely hard for this football club and I love every minute of it and I will continue to do that. Since I’ve been manager there has been a cloud and I think we need to sit down as a whole and take away this anxiety.
“Fundamentally there does feel there is something wrong. I felt it before the game and I could see that in my players’ performances.
“I’m very strong, I’m very resilient and I’d like to think my teams over a number of seasons have fought very hard. Quite clearly at the moment I seem to have lost that and I need to make I get that back.”
