George Wells sends Slough into FA Cup second round

George Wells scored the winning penalty as Slough won a thrilling shootout 8-7 to upset Sutton after a 1-1 draw in their FA Cup first-round replay.
The National League Premier side appeared to be heading through to a second-round meeting at home to Gillingham or Hartlepool when Harry Beautyman gave them an early lead.
But James Dobson’s free-kick levelled late on for National League South Slough who then progressed after an extraordinary 18-kick shootout.
Sutton were ahead just nine minutes in as Beautyman diverted in Josh Taylor’s cross.
Sutton, who famously made the fifth round in 2016-17, should have added further goals with Charlie Clough half-volleying against the bar while Jonah Ayunga missed the target when one-on-one in the second half.
But Dobson brilliantly fired home from the edge of the area nine minutes from the end of normal time moments after missing a good chance to level up.
After a quiet extra-time, the first 10 penalties were all scored before Tom Bolarinwa was denied by Jack Turner.
Sam Togwell then missed for Slough but left-back Wells kept his cool after Dean Beckwith had blazed over the bar.
