Alfie May scored four goals as Doncaster beat sixth tier Chorley 7-0 in their FA Cup first round replay.
May – signed from eighth tier Hythe Town less than two years ago – completed his first hat-trick in professional football before half-time, with Matty Blair and Herbie Kane also on target as Doncaster put themselves out of sight.
Despite the dismissal of Tom Anderson for two bookable offences just before the hour, Rovers added two more through May and John Marquis.
May opened the scoring on seven minutes after latching onto Kane’s long ball forward, with Blair doubling the advantage on 21 minutes with a header from close range.
Doncaster were in full control and turned the screw with a stunning strike from Kane from 25 yards on 29 minutes, then May wrapped up his treble with two goals in five minutes just after the half hour.
After Anderson’s red card, Marquis missed a penalty after being brought down by the National League North side’s goalkeeper Matt Urwin.
May grabbed his fourth with nine minutes remaining, before Marquis curled in a superb effort from the edge of the area four minutes later.
