Peterhead top standings after seeing off Albion Rovers

Peterhead moved to the top of the Scottish League Two table with a 2-1 victory over bottom side Albion Rovers.

The hosts, who have now won nine of their last 10 matches, stormed into a 2-0 lead within 16 minutes thanks to a double from Derek Lyle.

Albion, who have lost nine of their 11 matches, threatened to snatch a point when Barry Eley pulled one back after 71 minutes, but Peterhead held on to take top spot.

Edinburgh began the day on top of the pile but lost 1-0 at home to Clyde.

John Rankin fired Clyde, who had lost their previous two matches, into the lead after 34 minutes. And they held on to that advantage against an Edinburgh side who had won their previous eight matches.

Stirling Albion inflicted a sixth successive defeat on Berwick with a 3-0 win at the Forthbank Stadium.

The hosts had lost four in a row themselves but were 2-0 up at the break courtesy of strikes from Neil McLaughlin and Dylan Mackin. Daniel Jardine added the third after the break.

Elgin came from behind to claim a 2-1 win at Cowdenbeath. Blair Malcolm’s first-half goal gave Cowdenbeath the advantage but Greg Morrison equalised shortly after the break.

And with virtually the final kick of the match, Shane Sutherland struck to give Elgin the win.

Queen’s Park and Annan Athletic played out a 0-0 draw in the other game in League Two.
