Scottish League One leaders Arbroath remain unbeaten after securing a 1-0 win against in-form East Fife at Gayfield Park.
Michael McKenna’s 55th-minute goal was enough to take all three points against the Fifers, who remain third but have now lost their last two matches.
Second-placed Raith responded from losing their first match of the season last weekend by picking up a 2-1 win over Brechin.
Raith took the lead through League One’s top scorer Kevin Nisbet in the 41st minute – the first goal of the afternoon in the entire league.
Nisbet then added his second of the afternoon and 15th of the season in added time, before Andrew Jackson halved the deficit a minute later.
Montrose were victorious in the battle between the bottom two as Graham Webster’s 53rd-minute goal earned them a 1-0 win against Dumbarton.
It was just a second win in seven matches for the hosts, who jump off the bottom and up to sixth in the table.
One of those leapfrogged sides were Stenhousemuir after they were beaten 2-0 at home by Stranraer.
Grant Anderson put the visitors ahead just after half-time and Stenhousemuir’s task became much harder when Alan Cook was shown a straight red for serious foul play 17 minutes from time.
Paul Crossan doubled Stranraer’s advantage in the first minute of added time.
Fourth-placed Forfar closed the gap on East Fife with a late win away at Airdrieonians. John Baird found the top corner eight minutes from time to seal Forfar’s third successive victory.
