Wrexham hold on against 10-man Hartlepool

Wrexham had to withstand a nervy second-half against 10-man Hartlepool before holding on to win 1-0.

Luke Young fired Wrexham in front in the 20th minute when his long-range strike, after a solo run, beat keeper Scott Loach.

Young’s corner almost created a second for captain Shaun Pearson before Pools captain Andrew Davies was sent off just before half-time for headbutting Stuart Beavon in retaliation having been fouled by the Wrexham man.

Wrexham were unable to put the game to bed against 10 men, though, and Liam Noble went closest to a second-half equaliser, sending a long-range shot just wide.

Luke James and Ryan Donaldson threatened late on but the Teessiders were unable to find a leveller.
