Tranmere move up to fourth with win over Macclesfield

Tranmere moved up fourth in League Two after grafting out a 1-0 victory against rock-bottom Macclesfield at Prenton Park.
Harvey Gilmour scored his third goal in consecutive starts 16 minutes from time to secure a victory that keeps Rovers upwardly mobile and the Silkmen still without a league win this season.
Adam Buxton’s dipping 25-yard free kick beat Rhys Taylor 11 minutes into the game, but rebounded off the post and that was about as good as the action got in the first half.
Taylor denied James Norwood with his legs after the break before Michael Rose struck the inside of the post for Macclesfield with a rasping free kick.
But Tranmere made the breakthrough when Connor Jennings evaded two challenges and squared for on-loan Gilmour, who thumped a low drive past Taylor from the edge of the box.
Jennings missed an easy chance to wrap up the points with a second goal for Rovers – side-footing wide – but it proved immaterial.
