Liverpool star surprise target for Barcelona: Reds could lose defender for FREE

LIVERPOOL star Alberto Moreno is reportedly a shock target for Barcelona as they look to reinforce their defence with his contract running down.

The Spaniard joined Liverpool in 2014 from Sevilla for £12m and was a regular in the side for the first two seasons there.

However, after the emergence of Andy Robertson, the full-back has had to take a backseat while the Scotsman has gained all the plaudits.

He has made just one appearance for the Reds this season, in the Carabao Cup defeat against Chelsea.

Moreno was one of the defenders at fault for Eden Hazard's winning wonder-goal, with the Spain international nutmegged by the 27-year-old on his way to goal.

The 26-year-old will see his contract expire at the end of the season and there is no inclination that Jurgen Klopp is willing to give him a new deal.

It means that Moreno is facing up to the fact that he will be leaving Anfield for nothing at the end of the year - but one titanic club have emerged as potential suitors.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are interested in snapping up the left-back as a back-up to Jordi Alba.

They will look to use his expiring contract as a bargaining chip by offering the Reds some money for him or risk losing him for free.

Meanwhile, fellow isolated star Fabinho has revealed he is coming close to understanding Klopp's style of play.

"My process to adapt to English football has been very good. Since pre-season I believe I have understood the way Jürgen Klopp plays and the way the team plays," said Fabinho.

"My relationship with my teammates has also been very good, like Roberto Firmino, who has been helping me, and also Alisson.

"I'm playing a little bit more and that's important to me because it's important to adapt on the pitch by playing matches.

"It's a new experience for me because Klopp has a different style of work from the way I'm used to – but this is something I will learn.

"I have learned a few things from him but it is just the start. He is a coach who demands a lot from his players, not only in matches but also on a daily basis in training."
