Billy Kee penalty earns win for Accrington

Billy Kee’s early penalty continued Accrington’s excellent start to life in Sky Bet League One as they won 1-0 at Walsall.
The decisive goal came after just six minutes as Isaiah Osbourne stuck out a careless leg to catch Stanley skipper Seamus Conneely just inside the area and Kee stroked home from the spot for his fifth goal of the season.
Only the excellence of goalkeeper Connor Ripley kept Stanley in front as he pushed Josh Ginnelly’s snapshot wide and made a superb flying save to foil Jon Guthrie’s header from the resulting corner.
Sean McConville almost doubled Accrington’s lead after 48 minutes but his 20-yard strike whistled inches wide.
Walsall keeper Liam Roberts made two fine saves to keep the hosts in it, first thwarting Jordan Clark’s low shot after a superb solo run from the Stanley winger and then tipping over a McConville rocket.
The Saddlers almost rescued a point in stoppage time but Ripley made a stunning save to thwart Zeli Ismail’s half-volley and Andy Cook headed just wide from the resulting corner.
