Six of the best as Salford ease past Maidenhead to go top

A sixth consecutive victory saw Salford climb to the top of the Vanarama National League after winning 3-0 at Maidenhead.
Salford should have taken a ninth-minute lead when Rory Gaffney had the goal at his mercy after a cross from the left but chested wide and moments later Adam Rooney’s effort grazed the top of the crossbar.
But they went ahead in the 25th minute when Scott Wiseman played a one-two with Gaffney before sliding the ball underneath the keeper.
Just two minutes later Rooney doubled the advantage. Lloyd McGoldrick’s cross picked out the former Aberdeen frontman and he lifted the ball over the keeper and into the net.
Maidenhead should have got themselves back into the game with 20 minutes remaining when James Akintunde burst past Ibou Touray and pulled the ball back to Josh Kelly but he blazed over.
Devante Rodney wrapped it up in stoppage time after he was teed up by Gaffney before Danny Whitehead struck the post for the rampant visitors.
