Burton Albion FC vs Scunthorpe United - Burton trio facing late fitness tests
Posted Friday, September 28, 2018 by PA
Burton boss Nigel Clough is waiting on the fitness of three players ahead of his side’s return to League One action at home to Scunthorpe.
Albion reached the fourth round of the League Cup for the first time in their history this week with victory over Burnley, but it came at a cost with Stephen Quinn (knee), Scott Fraser (calf) and David Templeton all nursing knocks.
Clough does have players coming back into contention, though. Kyle McFadzean will be available again after suspension while Marvin Sordell was rested against the Clarets.
John Brayford played his first game for several weeks on Tuesday night following a hamstring injury and the right-back could be involved again.
Scunthorpe defender Jordan Clarke will be back in the Iron squad at the Pirelli Stadium.
The 26-year-old has been out for almost a month with a hamstring injury but came through a midweek reserve friendly with no ill effects and will probably be on the bench.
Rory McArdle made his return from a hamstring problem as a late substitute in the win against Shrewsbury and the centre-half should be involved again.
Rory Watson and Matt Gilks remain long-term absentees for the visitors, who are unbeaten in five League One matches.
