Tisdale bemoans wasted chances as MK Dons are held at Yeovil

Paul Tisdale was left wondering how his MK Dons team did not leave Yeovil with all three points after they were held to a 1-1 draw in League Two.

Kieran Agard gave the visitors the lead in first-half added time yet despite a host of chances before and after the break, they could not find a second and Olufela Olomola delivered the sucker punch with an 88th-minute equaliser.

“How we didn’t score two, three, four in that second half I don’t know,” Tisdale said.

“I thought we were fabulous with our play today, we were so positive and attacking. Being critical we maybe didn’t take a deep breath in front of goal and play an extra pass.

“We had so many opportunities three-v-two or two-v-one to slide someone else in to score. We were so anxious and desperate to score and in those circumstances maybe too desperate. We just need to pick ourselves up.

“At 1-0 the opposition has always got a chance. They just picked us off with one pass and there was a mistake in there of sorts but it’s very hard for me to be critical of the players today.

“On the whole we certainly responded to Saturday and it was a really good performance and I’m really pleased with the players, but terribly disappointed.”

Glovers manager Darren Way felt his team were hard done by after referee Antony Coggins waved away appeals from Jordan Green for a first-half penalty, before fouls on Diallang Jaiyesimi and Omar Sowunmi left both players having to be taken off with injuries.

“We definitely should have had a penalty,” Way said. “That puts you 1-0 up. Jordan Green almost took three or four minutes to get up, he was so disappointed.

“I felt the referee didn’t really get hold of the game. It was an aggressive tackle and quite clearly a penalty and he didn’t give it and the game carried on from there with one or two incidents I wasn’t happy about.

“I’ve ended up with two on the treatment table because of some of the tackles and they weren’t good tackles.

“It’s fine lines in football. They’re a good team. They’ve got a massive budget and I think they’ll be disappointed. So overall I’ve got to be pleased with the response from my players.

“We were desperate to get that goal back and we needed someone to come through and that’s exactly what happened. It was a great finish and I was asking for the front four to give something special because that’s what the game needed. It’s always difficult when you’ve got to break down a back five.”
