Barcelona coach Valverde confirms contract has option

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has confirmed there's a 12 month option in his contract.

Valverde confirmed he has the chance to prolong his stay on the Camp Nou bench, but suggested he's in no hurry to commit.

"I have a contract at the moment until [the end of the season] and I have the option to extend it by a further year," he said in a news conference.

"We know how things work in football. Seasons are long. We will have to see how things go and how the team progresses. It's still September, there's a long way to go [in the campaign]."

And when asked if he could bring his time at the club to an end because of exhaustion, he added in his usual dry tone: "We're in September so there's still time for me to get worn out."
