Super Shelton strike seals Salford success

A thunderbolt from Mark Shelton was the highlight of Salford’s 3-1 home victory over Boreham Wood.
Tom Walker, Shelton and Rory Gaffney fired the Ammies to a fourth straight Vanarama National League win, although play-off hopefuls Boreham Wood would pull a goal back through Josh Umerah.
Salford were ahead three minutes in as Walker prodded home Gaffney’s header from a Danny Lloyd cross and it was not long before the latter tried to dink the goalkeeper, only for his shot to go wide.
It was 2-0 when Shelton drove a fantastic half-volleyed effort into the top corner in the 21st minute and Lloyd saw his next attempt ruffle the side-netting shortly before half-time.
The third Salford goal arrived after the break when Gaffney stuck away Lloyd’s low cross to the back post, with Umerah soon providing some comfort for the Wood with a response in the 55th minute.
