Sutton continue strong start with win at Maidstone

Ross Lafayette’s goal was enough to give Sutton a 1-0 win over Maidstone in the Vanarama National League.
The striker gave Sutton a 10th-minute lead, arriving on cue at the near post to turn home Jonah Ayunga’s cross.
The pair threatened on several occasions to add to the goal tally, and Maidstone went close to an equaliser early in the second period when Jamar Loza’s 30-yard strike rebounded to safety off the crossbar.
Sutton held firm, though, and could even have extended their winning margin late on when Tommy Wright’s powerful effort drew a good save from Lee Worgan. Regardless, they remain among a host of teams within one win of top spot in a tightly-packed table.
