O’Grady and Nepomuceno on target as Oldham take points from Morecambe

Two goals in two first-half minutes earned Oldham maximum points from a 2-0 victory over Morecambe at the Globe Arena.

Chris O’Grady and Gevaro Nepomuceno provided the cool finishes for the visitors to beat a Morecambe side who dominated for long periods but could not find a way past Daniel Iversen in the Oldham goal.

Latics’ first goal had a bit of fortune as Nepomuceno’s left-wing cross bounced around in the home box before falling perfectly for O’Grady to volley past Mark Halstead from six yards out.

One minute later the away side doubled their lead with a swift counter attack.

Liam Mandeville was dispossessed on the halfway line and Oldham switched the ball quickly to the right where Dan Gardner’s cross found Nepomuceno, who volleyed neatly past Halstead from close range.

Morecambe fought back with Josef Yarney denied a first Football League goal when his header was superbly saved by Daniel Iversen low to his right.

The hosts’ best chance of the first half came in injury time when Jason Oswell was played in by Yarney but he failed to find the target with only Iversen to beat.

Morecambe dominated the second half and created a sting of chances but once again but failed to hit the target.

Zak Mills came close with a shot after a superb run and Iversen saved well from Mandeville, AJ Leitch-Smith and captain Aaron Wildig as Morecambe failed turn pressure into goals.
