Leno joined Arsenal for £19million from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer and is expected to compete with Cech to be first choice.

But Emery gave Cech the nod against City and the 36-year-old conceded twice as the Gunners were beaten 2-0 by the Premier League.

Emery was asked about Leno not starting after the match and said the Germany international's chance will come soon.

Emery said: "Leno is starting with us, he is working very well and played very good in pre-season.

"He can wait his moment."

When asked about Cech's display, Emery added: "Petr Cech is doing very good.

"Today he played good also. He has experience of defending our goal."

Cech had a few shaky moments in goal for Arsenal and nearly scored an own goal.

And speaking after the match, the goalkeeper felt Arsenal were guilty of too many mistakes.

"We feel that we could have got something from the game," he said.

"In the second half, we forced them to make mistakes and we had some opportunities. But unfortunately, we lacked invention to find the killer pass.

"When you play against a team of City's quality and confidence it is always going to be difficult. Inevitably, you can make a few mistakes.

"It was a shame we couldn't finish off our counter attacks and overall we're disappointed with the defeat."
