Two goals from Mamadou Thiam and strikes from Brad Potts and Victor Adeboyejo gave Daniel Stendel his first win in charge of Barnsley as they opened their season with a 4-0 win over Oxford.
After starting on the front foot, the hosts took the lead in the 21st minute. Thiam received the ball 25 yards out and, after switching the ball onto his right foot, drilled his shot low into the bottom corner.
On the half-hour mark Thiam doubled the Tykes’ advantage. Potts laid the ball on for Thiam and, taking it first time, he again drilled the ball into the bottom corner.
In the 76th minute Barnsley grabbed their third. A loose ball deep inside the box fell to Potts who switched it onto his right foot and blasted it into the top corner from 12 yards out.
With one minute of normal time remaining, Tom Bradshaw received a cross deep inside the area and diverted it to Adeboyejo, who netted to round off the scoring.
