Salford denied winning start by late Leyton Orient leveller

Craig Clay struck a late equaliser to earn Leyton Orient a 1-1 draw and deny Salford victory in their first Vanarama National League game.
Summer signing Rory Gaffney volleyed home for Salford early in the second half, but Graham Alexander’s side came under late pressure and Clay stabbed home in the 86th minute.
The hosts, owned by a consortium that includes former Manchester United players, have won three promotions in four seasons and made an encouraging start to life in English football’s fifth tier.
After going close in the first half, they took a deserved 47th-minute lead when Gaffney converted Danny Lloyd’s left-wing cross.
But Salford, taken over by Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt in 2014, came unstuck with four minutes left as Clay poked home at the far post following a corner.
