Arsene Wenger admitted that he was wanted by Real Madrid on several occasions but he rejected their approaches due to his commitment to Arsenal.
The Frenchman was a fan of Madrid as a youngster but the timing was never right to take over.
"When the new stadium was built I thought I had five years left at Arsenal," he said.
"After just one year the offer came from Real Madrid and although you are always tempted by Madrid, it was not a good moment for Arsenal. I was offered total control of the club."
