Queens inflict heavy defeat on Dundee United

Dundee United’s hopes of claiming second spot in the Ladbrokes Championship were sunk as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Queen of the South.
Lyndon Dykes put the hosts ahead in the ninth minute when he slotted home from close range and Joseph Thomson added a second just after the half-hour with a deflected shot.
Stephen Dobbie was twice denied by Deniz Mehmet as Queens sought to finish the game off before the veteran striker fired another effort just wide.
United tried to find a way back into the game but their hopes of salvaging a point were crushed when Queens added a fine third through substitute Connor Murray 13 minutes from time.
The 20-year-old had only been on the pitch a matter of moments when he produced a brilliant 25-yard shot that left Mehmet helpless.
Scott McDonald hit the crossbar as United sought a late consolation goal but it was not to be as they were convincingly beaten.
