Jason Pearce and Josh Magennis were on target as Charlton won 2-0 at Shrewsbury to move back into the League One play-off places.
The result leaves Paul Hurst’s Shrewsbury five points adrift of the automatic promotion places with four games remaining.
Chances were in short supply at either end in a goalless first half, with Ben Godfrey firing a shot from outside the penalty area off target for Shrewsbury.
Then Aristote Nsiala headed a Shaun Whalley free-kick wide as the hosts pushed for a breakthrough.
Charlton were first to threaten in the second half when Jake Forster-Caskey’s corner was headed over by Magennis.
Shrewsbury quickly surged forward and substitute Abo Eisa’s cross-shot was pushed away by goalkeeper Ben Amos.
Tarique Fosu’s well-struck shot for Charlton was tipped over by Dean Henderson before visiting skipper Pearce headed a Forster-Caskey corner just wide.
But Pearce was more accurate when another chance presented itself in the 74th minute, heading in a Forster-Caskey free-kick from the left from close range to break the deadlock.
Charlton doubled their advantage deep into stoppage time when Magennis lifted the ball home following a sliced clearance from Henderson.
