Dunfermline thrash Brechin as they maintain play-off push

Dunfermline tightened their hold on a promotion play-off place with a 4-0 win at home to basement boys Brechin.
The writing was on the wall for the visitors, who have amassed just four points all season, after only two minutes when Lee Ashcroft volleyed home from Fraser Aird’s corner from the right.
Aird was on target himself in the 25th minute, sending a glorious chip from the edge of the area over the head of Graeme Smith and into the net.
And Aird was heavily involved in the hosts’ third too, sending over the cross which Andy Ryan headed home.
Kallum Higginbotham’s penalty in the 87th-minute, following a foul by Aron Lynas on Daniel Armstrong, made it 4-0.
Victory kept Dunfermline in third place, level on points with fourth-placed Dundee United and with a five-point cushion over Greenock Morton in fifth.
