Hartlepool secure share of the spoils at Sutton

Hartlepool claimed a battling point in their bid to secure survival in the Vanarama National League following a 1-1 draw at promotion-chasing Sutton.
The home side were quick out of the blocks and Harry Beautyman had already brought a save out of Scott Loach when Ross Lafayette nodded in the opening goal after nine minutes.
Tommy Wright should have made it two with a close-range header and the striker was then denied by Loach shortly afterwards.
Hartlepool equalised against the run of play in the 26th minute when a cross was cleared to teenager Josh Hawkes and he drilled home.
Sutton continued to dominate and Lafayette twice went close before the break.
Chances were at a premium after half-time, with Ross Stearn’s long-range effort the closest either side came.
